Eric Richmond
Principal
Eric Richmond, Principal, established Flat Rock in the year 2000. With inspirations from Christopher Alexander to Frank Gehry, he is recognized for designing buildings which emphasize responsiveness to how a client, family or community will live within a given space. His relaxed, casual designs often reflect the integration of elements from his personal travels and local references. From the exposed plaster finishes of the Italian country home to the beach culture of Santa Monica; his artistic and innovative designs utilize traditional materials in an edgy contemporary way, while also hinting at the historic vernacular of the client’s chosen setting. Eric received his BA in Architecture, graduating cum laude from the University of WA in 1988. After ten years in the construction industry, he relocated from the Seattle area to Whidbey Island, WA where he currently resides with his family.
Angela Vosburg
Interior Designer
Angela Vosburg, Interior Designer, joined in 2016, adding the Interior sector to the Flat Rock team. After co-owning large restaurants for 12 years, she met Eric while working with him on designing one of her previous restaurants. Enriched by the experience she then made the transition into the design industry. As a lover of design, art, and travelling; finding solutions to space planning and making it aesthetically joyous at the same time is a harmonic challenge that she likes to take on.
Being engaged in the community is one of her passions by spearheading new events and fostering old ones with fresh, creative design and style. Raised on Whidbey Island her whole life, graduating from South Whidbey High school in 2001, she embraces the beauty of the Island life, while raising her son here.

Curt Brown
Draftsman
Curt Brown, Draftsman, joined Eric at Flat Rock in 2014, following a full career as a finish carpenter and project lead. His path coursed through new construction, custom homes and remodeling before settling into renovation of historic houses in Portland, Oregon. Decades of ‘on the job’ detailing in the language of old houses informs much of Curt’s work as a contributing member at Flat Rock.
A lifelong observer of the built environment, Curt is perpetually on the lookout for inspiration that may apply to fresh design solutions. Travels with his family have added a rich visual basis drawn from around the globe. It remains a personal mission to meld the objectives of design and construction practices toward beneficial results for the client. Working with Eric and the Flat Rock crew is Curt’s idea of a dream job.
